After Japanese Whisky, there is a new wave of Alco-beverage from the land of rising sun’ that’s hitting the shores of all over the world. In recent years or we can say in the recent months, Japanese Alco beverages have been a big hit especially in the auction around the globe, many are willing to pay a fortune for this limited editions of bottles of liquor and spirits.
But recently it’s not great red from Spain nor the fine wines from France that have been grabbing the attention of all Masters of Wine. It has been observed that it all come from the ‘magical sites’ of the unknown regions of Japan.

Especially with the change in practices that have taken by all the winemaker in the country, stating all the grapes used in making the Japanese wine have to be grown in Japan also. As before the wine used to be imported from other country and then bottling and labeling in the country as well representing as it’s own product. But with the new generation of winemakers, there are new laws that are made in against of this practices. They are working to improve the production and developing new techniques and also developing new sites for that matter.
The new law of Japanese Wine from Japan may be new but the history of domestic wine has rooted from the second half 19th century. The main regions are Yamanashi Prefecture and many limited wineries are located in Hokkaido of the North to Miyazaki Prefecture on the Southern island of Kyushu.

It’s the climatic conditions that have affected largely in the vino cultivation of Japan. As a result, the techniques that are being used in this cultivation is also have evolved and advanced with its factors. The two major varieties of grapes include the indigenous Japanese white grape “Koshu,” and the red “Muscat Bailey A,” which is an indigenous crossbreed of Vitis labrusca and Vitis vinifera. Koshu may have come from China during the silk road in the 6th and 7th century, but soon it suited the climate of Japan, where it started to grow more of food consumption purpose and later with the western civilization it took the flavor of the wine. And today Koshu is known in the world of grapes for being awarded many awards and recognition.

There is no doubt few of the highest bidders around the world in the recent auctions have all been from Asia itself. And they are going a great length in order to get the best of Japanese liquor especially. And this has affected the market in various ways.
The wine has always had a special place in Japanese spirits world. World third largest spirit producer, Suntory had also its story started with wine only. Founder Sinjorii Tori, open his first store where he started by selling imported wine. And later many years after, in 2010, Tori decided to produce a wine that is produced from 100% Japanese grapes. It also resulted in the modern wine that is available today, more on the fruity note. It very advances in taste and a good companion for any of the food that is available in your table.
One of the other reason that Japanese wine is famous for is it’s thick-skinned grapes, that it made it resistant to any kind of fungal diseases. Many of the famous wineries are coming forward in order to sustain the taste and production of Wine in Japan in a more better way than they did in the past. Currently, “Koshu” is strongly associated with “refreshing” impression, but they are looking for new varieties of it that shows more of aging potential.
