HEALTH BENEFITS OF WINE !!

Wine? Just the name is enough to think how good it feels to have a sip of it after a long day. Imagine sitting on your couch and enjoying a good bottle of wine of while binge watches your favorite series in the Netflix. Everyone wants that but then you fall for the guilty of having wine again. We all have that thinking but you know that having a glass of wine is a heart-hearty ritual that you can practice and still be healthy. Before we talk health benefits though, let’s talk pour size. It can be hard to gauge what an appropriate pour size is given the varying sizes and shapes of wine glasses. A proper glass of wine is a 5-ounce pour. And when we say “moderate drinking”, that means what is clinically considered to be healthy. For women, it’s one glass a day and for men, it’s two, I know we wish for more but the less it is the better it will be. Just like how the less aged wine is the better it is for our health.

Prepare to be amazed at the slew of benefits that wine has for our health, so the next time you decide to drink wine but after an hour of spending an hour in the gym, you think it as a no-no. think again and remember what we told you.

  1. It promotes longevity

As soon we hear the world Longevity and healthy living, Japanese people are the one that comes to our mind. it has been proven for a long time that people of Japan have a longer lifespan.  But when it comes to drinks it’s the wine that represents longevity. There is something amazing inside the daily glass of wine that increases lifespan. And that magical thing is resveratrol.

Researchers at Harvard Medical School found that resveratrol activates a protein that acts as an anti-aging agent. The interaction increases overall health, thus promoting longevity. A 2007 study suggests procyanidins, compounds found in red wine tannin, help promote cardiovascular health. Wines produced in areas of southwest France and Sardinia, where people tend to live longer, have particularly high concentrations of the compound.

2. Get smarter with it

Resveratrol may help improve short-term memory. After just 30 minutes of testing, researchers found that participants taking resveratrol had a significant increase in retention of words and showed faster performance in the portion of the brain associated with the formation of new memories, learning, and emotions. As a result, it protects the brain from dementia while slowing the onset of neurodegenerative diseases like Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s.

3. Wine lower the level of cholesterol

Resveratrol is thought to reduce LDL and increase HDL, meaning that our blood vessels are less likely to be coated with a plaque. Even the American Heart Association admits that moderate consumption of any type of alcohol can increase your HDL, or good cholesterol, by about 12%.  So if you’re having trouble keeping your cholesterol levels on the good side, sip on a daily glass of medicinal red wine.

4.Reduce the risk of stroke

Wine may reduce your risk of ischemic stroke. In analyses adjusted for age, sex, and smoking, intake of wine on a monthly, weekly, or daily basis was associated with a lower risk of stroke compared with no wine intake.  The benefits were not seen in beer or hard alcohol consumption. The tannins found in red wine contain procyanidins – phenol which neutralizes free radicals – that have shown to be effective in preventing cardiovascular disease. Moderate consumption of wine – and alcohol in general – can prevent blood clotting. Wine acts as a natural blood thinner, breaking up any blood clots that could lead to a stroke. This lower risk of blood clotting is more beneficial to females than males.

Beware, while light to moderate consumption may be good in preventing a stroke, heavy drinkers are more likely to have the opposite effect, resulting in a higher risk of heart attacks, not a lower risk. Like all good things in life, moderation is key.

5. It contains antioxidants

In the battle against fighting off free radicals that cause terrible health problems such as cancer, wine could be your answer. Wine is full of antioxidants that attack free radicals when they come lurking around. When choosing your wine for antioxidants, go with white. The phenol in white wine had equal, if not higher antioxidants, than those in red wine. This is interesting because wine drinkers commonly believe red wine provides the most health benefits in moderate amounts.

6.Cuts Risk of Cataract

Resveratrol stops out-of-control blood vessel growth in the eyes. This may help with treatment of diabetic retinopathy and age-related macular degeneration. Note that these studies were done in mice, so the dose for humans is not yet clear. But this is a great start.

7.Slash your diabetes risk

Men and women who drink moderately have a 30% lower risk of developing Type 2 diabetes. This may be due again to resveratrol, which improves sensitivity to insulin. Insulin resistance is the most important critical factor contributing to Type 2 diabetes risk. Red wine is abundant in polyphenols. The polyphenols in wine interact with cells involved in the development and storage of fat and the regulation of blood sugar.  The amount of polyphenols in a small glass of red wine appears to rival the blood sugar regulating activity of certain diabetes drugs.

8.Cuts Risk of Colon Cancer

Studies show that moderate consumption of red wine can reduce the risk of colon cancer by 50%.  The antioxidants combat nasty free radicals that allow cancer to thrive. Red wine especially is beneficial, as the resveratrol that fights against heart disease also fights against cancerous cells. Not that you need another excuse to drink wine, but if it can help against the vicious battle against cancer, then happily pour a glass. If you’re looking for a red high in resveratrol, then opt for a nice glass of cabernet sauvignon.

9. Reduce (not increase) your risk of liver disease

Modest wine consumption, defined as one glass a day, may decrease the prevalence of Non-Alcoholic Fatty Liver Disease (NAFLD). Modest wine drinkers, as compared to teetotalers, cut their risk of NAFLD in half. And compared with wine drinkers, modest beer or liquor drinkers had four times the odds of having suspected NAFLD.

10. Banish breakouts with wine

Resveratrol is able to inhibit the growth of acne-causing bacteria longer than benzoyl peroxide. And it works even better when combined with benzoyl peroxide.  So far, drinking the antioxidant is the best way to benefit from its properties. Topical application in creams has not been proven as effective – so imbibe your antioxidants in wine, fruits, and veggies rather than buying expensive creams.
