Once in a while, there will be something that becomes everyone’s favorite and insanely popular, “Game of Thrones” is an example of such pop-cultural trend. It became so popular that, it also has its effects in the Alco-Beverage industry as well. But this, not the first time that the series has inspired liquor company to create its own collection. Brewery Ommegang’s wildly successful line of Westeros-centric beers have been around for years at this point, and winemaker Bob Cabral partnered with HBO for a line of Thrones-themed wines. It represents the ‘Seven Kingdoms’ of the series, but that’s not all there are liquor products that are dedicated to the famous trends that created by ‘GOT’ in each of its season, such as Iron Thrones, Bend the Knees, Third Eye Raven, and even Fire and Blood.
There is no doubt that ‘Game of Thrones’ is one of the most merchandised series of the all-time, from posters to key chains to even clothing, it has its presence everywhere and at almost at everything. It also has declared many a time as the most pirated downloads. As every season come to be aired there are always many uproars that are created both its release and before it releases.
As the eighth and last season of the series will be aired sometime in the year of 2019, it has already made a noise with the latest release of a scotch whiskey by Johnnie Walker recently, which not surprisingly unveil with the name of ‘White Walker Whisky’, that has been inspired by the undead and most feared army in the series also known as ‘The White Walkers’ and their commander ‘The Night King’, especially after the 7th season.
Diageo, the multinational beverage company has partnered with HBO, the official Premiered channel of the series to announce the White Walker Whisky; a limited-edition blended scotch that is meant to be served directly from the freezer. Created by Johnnie Walker’s blenders alongside a whiskey specialist, the spirit combines single malts from Cardhu and Clynelish, one of Scotland’s most northern distilleries.
Whiskeys from Clynelish have endured long, Scottish winters, not dissimilar to the long periods endured by the Night’s Watch who have ventured north of the wall — so it was the perfect place to start when creating this unique whiskey. The expression is described as having notes of caramelized sugar and vanilla, and fresh red berries with a touch of orchard fruit.
There’s a bonus to sticking this sucker in the freezer, beyond the fact that it’s apparently the best way to taste it. The bottle uses “temperature-sensitive thermochromic ink technology,” meaning that when frozen, there’s a graphic revealed on the bottle. When at room temperature, the bottle showcases Johnnie Walker’s striding man outfitted like the Night King, though they left the gentleman his top hat.
But this is not only the spirit that Diageo has invested, but it also has more in its kitty bag. they also have announced in the press release that they are also coming with a Game Of Thrones single malt scotch collection, considerably more appealing. The collection features eight scotches, and each is new to the United States. Seven are named for a House of Westeros, and one for the Night’s Watch.
The distilleries of Diageo are playing the most significant part in this collection just like the Houses of the series. They are representing each of the houses. The distilleries are: House Tully–Singleton of Glendullan Select; House Stark–Dalwhinnie Winter’s Frost; House Targaryen–Cardhu Gold Reserve; House Lannister–Lagavulin 9 Year Old; The Night’s Watch–Oban Bay Reserve; House Greyjoy–Talisker Select Reserve; House Baratheon–Royal Lochnagar 12 Year Old; and House Tyrell–Clynelish Reserve.
The suggested retail price for White Walker is $36, plus whatever it costs you to put a perfectly drinkable bottle of whiskey in the freezer, and it will be available globally this month i.e September. The collection spirits range from $29.99 to $64.99 and will be available in November. All are limited edition, so get them in a hurry if you’re so inclined, and we strongly advise against gifting to other than just having to yourself just like a true ‘GOT’ fanatic.
