Glenfiddich distillery situated in Dufftown, Banffshire founded in 1887. It offers 3 different tours to gain knowledge about their history and discoveries. Opens for 7 days a week, where the Explorers tour which is 90 minutes long takes you through the entire Glendfiddich story, where you can see the visitors center, the Mash House, Still House, warehouses and dramming center, and of course taste several different types of whiskey. The Glenfiddich Solera Deconstructed tour takes to their home of unique Solera process where one can discover what made the 15-year-old such an exceptional dram. And then taken to the master malt suit, where you can make you can taste a sample from the different cask and also be able top bottled a sample of your own creation
Glenfiddich Pioneers tour takes you deep inside the Glenfiddich secrets. In the tour, you can understand and hears about the wealth of the craftsmanship and traditions that are still used. During the course of your tour, you’ll visit a number of warehouses and discover warehouse number 12, home to the Malt Master’s Selection. You will be invited to fill a 20cl bottle from the cask of your choice, which you will be able to take home, along with a beautiful commemorative book documenting your trip to the distillery.
2. Old Bushmills Distillery, Bushmills, Northern Ireland
The story of Bushmills started in 1608. This oldest whiskey facility in Northern Ireland offers an hour-long walking tour through all the different stages of the whiskey production. It is the same place where family and friends have worked for generations, in the small Northern Irish village that for over 400 years has kept to the philosophy that hand is crafting small batches is the way to produce beautifully smooth tasting Irish whiskey. You’ll learn about the history of Bushmills, about the process, and of course – you’ll taste Bushmills.
3. Jim Beam American Stillhouse, Clermont, Kentucky
The 75 minutes guided tour in the Jim Beam American Stillhouse will take you through the entire Bourbon making process. Starting with the natural limestone water, all the way through the mashing, distilling, barreling, storing, and finally – bottling. Needless to say, the tour includes Bourbon tasting as well. This tasting is primarily focused on Bourbon fused meals and what is more exciting? The tastings accompanied with Jim Beam Master Distillers and you can get a commemorative bottle to remember the experience. It’s one of a kind of experience.
4. The Macallan Distillery, Craigellachie, Scotland
Established in the year 1824 founded by Alexender Reid. The Macallan was one of the first distilleries in Scotland to be legally licensed. Since then they built a reputation of being one of the world’s leading single malt whiskeys. The origin of The Macallan draws on the vital contributing aspects of Spain, North America and Scotland – and of their respective natural raw materials, combined with traditional methods and craftsmanship.
The tour in the Macallan Estate is 1 hour 45 minutes. The guided tour will take you through the entire world of The Macallan, and then you’ll experience a nosing and tasting of four The Macallan whiskeys.
5. Jack Daniel’s Distillery, Lynchburg, Tennessee
Jack Daniels Distillery was officially established in the year 1866, which also made it be the first registered distillery in the whole of America. The introduction of Old No. 7 as the signature charcoal mellowed Tennesse Whiskey drink of Jack a.k.a Jasper Newton Daniel happened during that period. Jack Daniel’s Distillery is mostly outdoors and takes about 1 hour 10 minutes. The enhanced tour that includes sampling which takes about 1 hour 45 minutes.
6. Jameson
In the year 1810, The John Jameson and Son Irish Whiskey company were formally established. There are two locations in Ireland where you can get the full Jameson experience:
The Old Jameson Distillery, Dublin, Ireland – Jameson’s original distillery in Dublin is now a visitor’s center. The guided tour is just under an hour long and takes you through the entire history of Jameson – the most famous Irish whiskey brand. The tour includes a comparative tasting and a complimentary Jameson drink, as well as Whiskey Taster Certificate. The Jameson tour is a popular attraction in Dublin.
The Jameson Experience, Midleton, Ireland – The modern Jameson distillery that produces all the brand’s whiskeys is situated in Midleton, near Cork. Like the tour in the old distillery, you will learn all about the history and production process of Jameson and will enjoy a complimentary Jameson drink as well as the certificate. The tour lasts for one hour.
7. Wild Turkey Distillery, Lawrenceburg, Kentucky
Wild Turkey bourbon whiskey was founded in 1940 and quickly became famous. Tours are held in the visitors center daily. The tour is famously known as the Barrel of Bottle. It’s a 60-minute tour that includes a depth visit to the distillery and our historic Brick house, where barrels age. End of the tour you can experience with a tasting flight featuring their Wild Turkey Bourbon $11 per person fee Policies.
8. Talisker Distillery, Skye, Scotland
This 200 years old distillery is delightfully located on Skye island. The tour takes you through Talisker’s copper pot stills, the worm tubs, and the warehouse which gives you a deep understanding of the entire process and of course – a taste. While you’re there you can enjoy the wonderful scenery of the island as well as the diverse marine life.
9. George Washington Distillery & Gristmill, Alexandria, Virginia
After leaving the office of the president of the United States, George Washington opened a distillery at his Virginia estate, Mount Vernon. Washington’s distillery produced as much as 11,000 gallons of whiskey a year. In 2005 after research excavation and reconstruction, the George Washington distillery reopened and it looks and worked exactly how it did back in the 18th century. Tours are available every day of the year.
10. Maker’s Mark Distillery, Loretto, Kentucky
Another distillery from the great state of Kentucky, Maker’s Mark may not be a world-famous label, but the tour is widely recommended. Tour spots are allowed on a first-come, first-serve basis, and the tours are mostly outdoors – so be prepared for the change in the weather. Also, you’ll be doing a good bit of walking and climbing some stairs. Wear comfortable shoes.
The regular distillery tour is about one hour long, and the wait time between tours may vary depending on the number of visitors. They are specialty tour available. There are tours such as Heritage Tour in which you’ll enjoy endless bourbon stories about characters as varied as Jim Beam, Jesse James and even Honest Abe himself, while Bill walks you around Kentucky’s most historic and beautiful distillery. Following the tour, enjoy a tasting of great bourbon created by his family- including Bill’s very own creation, Maker’s 46. Then there is Dinner at the Distillery! If you’re looking for a way to make your Maker’s Mark experience even more delicious. If you want to learn about what goes into making every bottle of Maker’s, you have the option of arriving by 5:00 PM in advance of your dinner for a complimentary tour of our Distillery. Dinner will begin at Star Hill Provisions, our on-site restaurant at 7:00 PM. Another tour that is available is in the name beyond the mark, This unique, intimate bourbon experience will take you behind the scenes and into the inner workings of crafting the world’s finest bourbon.
Then there is Inside the Barrel tour, on this tour, you will see the inner workings of our historic distillery. Then we dive deep into the barrel and the role the oak plays in the taste of Maker’s Mark. They will also introduce you to our newest family member, Maker’s Mark Private Select, and explain how this unique barrel program came to be with an exclusive tasting.
